PHIL-ALLEN WHIPPETS

CH. PHIL-ALLEN RHAPSODY IN BLUE

"Rapper" congratulates her sire, Ch. Appraxin Sir Bruce, owned. by Joan Frailey of Colton, California, as well as her dam, Aileen of Domaj, for both making the AWC Top Producers List in 1976!

"Rapper" is now looking to the future for her own progeny to put her in the Top Producers List. Two puppies of her litter, sired by Coronation Snowman--litter-mate to Coronation Snowstorm, a Group Winner--are already being seriously considered when shown at six months of age.

Phil-Allen Poetry-N-Popcorn, shown by his owner Cindy Scott, took RWD at Southern Colorado KC November 5, 1977, and first in Puppy Dog Class the next weekend at Rio Grande KC in Albuquerque at the AWC supported entry under Judge Pat Speight.

Phil-Allen Splendor, "Popcorn's litter-mate, took RWB at the Colorado Springs KC November 6, 1977, from the Bred By Exhibitor Class and at Albuquerque the following weekend again went RWB from the Puppy Class under Pat Speight.

These two youngsters will be worth watching as they mature!

WE CAN'T WAIT

.. for the arrival of our first litter (due December 1st). These two "royally" bred whippets should produce exceptional puppies for show, coursing, or obedience.

Ch. Highlight's Royal Lancer has been shown successfully in the U.S. and also has points towards his Mexican championship. He's just started his lure-coursing career, earning an NBQ his last time out (his fourth course ever attempted).

Highlight's Afternoon Delight is a lovely young bitch who will be starting her show career this year. Her sire Ch. Highlight's Flaming Beau has been successful in obedience as well as in the show ring.

Both these hounds are linebred back to the immortal Ch. Greenbrae Barn Dance, giving them the best possible bloodlines in the whippet world today. Inquiries are invited and extended pedigrees are available.

 DECEMBER 1977

705 Orange Avenue • Cranford, New Jersey 07016 RACING IN THE EAST

Well it finely happened! The Eastern Whippet Association started racing in the east and it looks like its here to stay. The Eastern Whippet Association formed in July of 76, and has been going strong ever since. In less than six months we had all the equipment needed to put on our unofficial race meet.

We had some problems with getting grounds. There are plenty of grounds but the cost was out of our reach. $75.004100-00 per day plus insurance a newly formed club like us couldn't afford it at this time.

Don Giese for no charge got the grounds at the Central Islip State Hospital . Joe Messineo got Goffle Park in Hawthorn, N.J. also for no charge. Other members got grounds but again the cost and insurance was too much for us to handle at this time.

This is one of the reasons the E.W.A. dates were not published far in advance for other people to support us. Next year we will have the dates published far in advance so all you other clubs can come East and run your dogs. We were looking forward for you to come to our third meet. Maybe next Year???

At this time we have thirty-six members in our club ranging as far away as Mass., Conn., N.Y., Pa., Long Island and N.J. and still growing. They are all dedicated and travel to train and race there dogs. They train hard and work hard to make the club a success.

Our first N.P.R. was held May 21, 22, at Central Islip State Hospital Long Island, N. Y. We had an entry of 42. With the Limits running as adults. 4 Puppies, 5 Veterans. We had coverage in local newspapers and in the New York Times and cable TV on sunday. Gene and Dona Helton from Ohio supported our first N.P.R. with Volant Big Red Machine and Volant Buckeye Express both ARM taking 1st,2 nd. Chris Blake's Sound The Charge took 3rd., and received the 4 ARM points with Volant Jazzman owned by Larry Dimeo and Magpi's Salida Del Sol owned by Chris Ciaccio each receiving 1 ARM • Mare's Head Lariet owned by T. Briscoe-Giese was top puppy. Second puppy was Mare's Head Be A Native, Giese. Top Limit was Mare's Head Famous Flight owned by Briscoe, Second limit was Saturn's Blue Moonstone owned by Spiga. Top Veteran was Mare's Head Golden Image owned by Briscoe, second was Sundance's Big Chance owned by Chris Blake.

Our second race meet was held on September 10-11 at Central Islip. We had an entry of 28 with the Limits running as adults. We changed the track from our first meet. 2 puppies ran an exhibtion race only. Chris Blake's Power of Destiny ARM took top honors. Larry Dimeo's Volant Music Man was second and received 3 ARM points. Volant Jazzman owned by Dimeo and Magpi's UNA VIA owned by Linda Fontana tied and each got ARM point. Top Limit was Mare's Head Famous Flight owned by Briscoe and second was Saturn's Shooting Star owned by Ann Leister.

Our third race meet was held on October 29-30 at Goffle Park, Hawthorn, N.J. Total entry was 32 adults with the Limits running as adults. 5 puppies. Ricky Peters Ricky's Z Z Top took the top honors at this race meet , receiving the 4 ARM points. Volant Jazzman owned by Larry Dimeo was second receiving 2 ARM points. Top Limit was Mare's Head Famous Flight owned by Briscoe. Second was Magpi's Florence Darby of Harmony owned by the Schillings. Top puppy was Timbars Midnight Sun owned by Schmidt-Wayock. Second was Stoney Meadows Daily Double owned by Mrs. P. Wear.

There are a number of dogs that impressed me and I think they will be hard to beat next year. Volant Jazzman should be the next dog to receive the Award of Racing Merit in the East. Duke has 115/6 ARM points and should finish at our first meet in the Spring. Volant Music Man has 4 ARM points and will be right up in the top too. Spike should be receiving top honors next year. Power of Destiny ARM when he puts his head together will run like he is the only dog in the race. Buck will be the ton dog again too. Chris' other dog Sound the Charge will give you a run for the money, Lopside has 4 ARM points and will be getting more. Ricky's Z Z Top is one of the hardest running dogs I've even seen. Z took top honors at our last meet and received 4 ARM points. Believe it or not he just was cured for heartworm. Look out for him next year. Magpi's Salida Del Sol received 1 ARM point at our first meet then came into heat for our second still not getting over her first experience of her heat she was scratched at our third. Peaches will be running like herself again next year. Magpi's Una Via received ARM point at our second meet and will be running up in the top again. Toby will be one of the dogs receiving ARM points next year. Magpi's Black Bottom of Harmony and Ch. Magpi's Mr. Peabody of Harmony are a couple of hard running dogs and should do well next year.

There are a good amount of young dogs coming into there own. Saturn's yellow moon owned by Spiga is moving up in the top ten. Magpi's Puesta Del Sol owned by Cory Delaplain Who has put a lot of work into her and it really shows. She is going to be tough next year. Magpi's Florence Darby of Harmony owned by the Schillings is a Limit Bitch I think will be the top Limit next year. She also could possibly get ARM points. Janet Wayock has a number of young puppies that will be coming up. Cindy Schmidt and Janet owned the top puppy at the last race meet, Timbars Midnight Sun. Chris Blake also has a number of young dogs that are looking good. Chris ran Mrs. P. Wear's dog the 2nd., top puppy at our last meet. Stoney Meadows Daily Double. Don Giese has two young dogs that will be coming along. Mare's Head Danny and Mare's Head Banjo Girl. Joe and Joyce Messineo has Arrian's Facet of Gold Dust coming along strong and they also have a new bitch we hope to see out next year. Stoney Meadows Perinneac Tilly. Ann Leister 's Saturn's Shooting Star will be coming on strong as she gets older. This is just a few of the up and coming dogs in the East. And we hope to have a few litters this winter.

The EWA would like to take this time to thank all the people who gave us support and trophy donations without which we would not have had such a good first year.

Keep On Racing.
