KIRKLEA SHAMAN CHABLIS, F.Ch. (Elysian Summer Storm x Kirklea Pewter Plate) Chablis is pictured going Winners Bitch for 5 points under Breeder-Judge Carol Willumsen at the AWC supported weekend at Stone Mountain, GA. Ms. Willumsen caller her "honest" and we found the term to our liking. Chablis is owner-handled. Chablis is a multiple Best in Field ASFA Field Champion and is looking forward to trying her paw at whippet racing. Chablis is also headed for the obedience ring. Chablis is a delight to behold from her big dark eyes to her warm red color. This "honest" girl can do what whippets should do - EVERYTHING WITH STYLE. SHAMAN SIGHTHOUNDS "Banjo" plays our kind of music! Ch. KIRKLEA BANYAN OF SHAMAN, F.Ch. (Hound-Hill Paul Scarlet x Longlesson Kirklea Aster) Banjo earned his Championship with four majors, including a 5 point major at the Columbia, SC supported entry under Judge Thelma Brown. Banjo is a Best in Field and multiple BOB ASFA Field Champion. Banjo, at this writing, has 2 legs toward his CD and hopes to wear the CD title by spring. Banjo is an excellent example of the versatile whippet and WE LOVE HIM SO! For more pedigree information on Banjo, see 1980-81 Whippet News Annual, pgs.51,140,141. SHAMAN SIGHTHOUNDS METROPOLITAN ATLANTA WHIPPET ASSOCIATION The Metropolitan Atlanta Whippet Association has been very active in our third year of existance. Under the leadership of President Frances Hembree our club has continued to grow and prosper. In August our members' match was held and judged by member Mr. Leonard Wallace. A grand time was had by all and Leonard's selection for Best In Match was "Kirklea Shaman Chablis", owned by Richard and Anna Erdmann. Best Puppy In Match was "Kirklea Fantasy Time", owned by Larry T. Shaw and Jack Wood. Moving along through the year, M.A.W.A. held its first Fun Field Trial judged by Dr. Mary Ann Armbruster Smith (A.S.F.A. licensed) and member Richard Erdmann. Best In Field judged by Dr. Armbruster Smith was whippet "Ch. Kirklea Banyan of Shaman, F.Ch.", owned by the Erdmanns. October drew near and the day of our supported entry had arrived. Mrs. Fell's choice for Best of Breed was "Ch. Elysian Glorya Rejoice". Our Stone Mountain weekend was a huge success with large whippet entries at Griffin KC, Kennesaw KC (our supported) and Classic City KC. We hope to see an even bigger entry next year! Our meetings are informative as well as social. An example of some of our programs for this year are: Dr. Jim Gray's "Whippet Conformation", a discussion on obedience and lure coursing. M.A.W.A. members are enthusiastic as well as hard working. We have only just begun. No telling what next year will have in store for Whippet Fanciers. Sue Rooney Secretary Metropolitan Atlanta Whippet Assn.

ELYSIAN FLASHDANCE (Danny) at 51/2 months Breeders: James R. Gray, MD & Larry T. Shaw Owners: Mary H. Woulfe & James R. Gray, MD Danny was Best in Match at the E.W.A. & A.W.A. match in September under breeder judge Pat Traino. Also first in a class of 63 at the Dog Owners Educational League All-Breed Sweepstakes under Ann Seranne. Thank you Jim and Tarry for entrusting this rather special puppy to me! Maurice and Mary Woulfe Great Western Whippet Association 1983 was an active year for the Great Western Whippet Association. We as a club held five official events--two NPR's, two OVAL's, and our annual Halloween All-Breed & Obedience Fun Match. Dave Barr was our NPR Race Secretary and held two successful events on April 9 and October 22. At the October meet, Lana Rosen was asked to be co-race secretary for the event and now is our new race secretary for 1984. Maury Cronister's two NOTRA events he governed over were the greatest. A big thankyou goes to Mike and Terry McDonald who make these events possible. Maury's unique pocket programs were a hit as usual. The first OVAL was on June 4th, and at the latest OVAL held on Decmeber 4th, we were privileged to have dogs entered from OHIO, TEXAS, WASHINGTON, and CANADA. At three of our race events we had hospitality lunches that are better known as feasts for all participants. GWWA owes a big thank you to Chris House for all her work in making our Halloween Match such a rousing success. Some of the accomplishments of our club members' dogs include one Lure Courser of Merit, two new AKC champions, and three Oval Racing Champions. Briton's Mountain Heather, LCM, is owned and bred by Tom & Sherre Wobbema; Ch. Saxon Shore Kandy Kane is owned by Nicole and Barbara Rupert; Ch. Sonsteby's I Told You So is owned & bred by Kristy Davis; Oceangate's the Highwayman, ORC, is owned & bred by Mike McDonald; Regalstock Caesar, ORC, is owned by Sid Smith and Lana Rosen; Bayview's Italian Bar, ORC, is owned and bred by Bud & Penny Carlson. Another outstanding achiever this past year was Ch. Runner's He's the Continental, owned and bred by Isabell Speight. 'Tally' as he is also known, won two All-Breed BEST IN SHOW's and finished 1983 by being Number 1 Whippet in the USA. Congratulations to such a star! I want to thank all the members of GWWA for their participation in our club events this year. In 1984 Great Western plans two NPR's, two OVAL's, two Lure Trials, and one all-breed Fun Match. Best of Luck to all and a Successful New Year!

Best in Show (Ch. Misty Moor's Chalmondoley x Plumcreek September Romance) "Clipper" is our all-breed Best In Show winner and the Best In Show winner of the American Whippet Club 1983 Midwest Specialty Show. Our thanks go to judge Eugene Jacobs and to all of our deserving competitors for this memorable specialty win. Clipper's dam is herself a specialty brood bitch winner and the producer of multiple champions, including two specialty winners, a specialty sweepstakes winner, and an all-breed best in show winner. His sire is, of course, the all-time top producer in our breed. With that background and his own achievements, we think Clipper has earned his attitude.
Celebrating our 21st year in 1983, SCWA and its members can look back over a year filled with many accomplishments and achievements. National Point Racing took on a new dimension in '83. For the first time SCWA hosted four NPR races in one year, with a total combined entry of 208 racers competing, and three out of the four race meets drawing over 50 adult entrants. This total entry represented the largest number of participants by any host club in the country in '83. With deep competition in each meet, a different winner emerged each time. The February race meet was w-n by Windward Blue of Wyndsor, who unfortunately was lost to an off-track accident shortly after his win. The June meet was captured by the National Racing Champion of '81 and '82, Regalstock Cimarron del Toro, while in October yet another winner was declared in Quantas of Wyndsor. The final NPR of the year, in December, was filled with excitement as entrants from many parts of the country traveled to Southern California in attempt to nail down the National Racing Championship title for 1983. The final results showed that Trylson of Wyndsor was not to be denied his place in history by winning the race meet and the National title for '83. N.O.T.R.A. Oval Track Racing, a favorite of members and races alike, drew a combined entry of 118 racers in the three ovals hosted by SCWA. The winner of the February oval was Flyaway DeLisa's Delight, the outstanding bitch that had captured the '82 Oval Racing Championship title. The April meet went to Clipper Gandalf of Wyndsor, while in October the winner was Quantas of Wyndsor. For 1984 SCWA has planned four National Point Races, three N.O.T.R.A. Oval Track Races, numerous lure courses and open field trials, and we are pleased to announce that our first AKC licensed Whippet Specialty and Obedience Trial will be held February 4th, at the beautiful Orange County Fair Grounds. We would like to thank all of the participants for their support of our events over the past year, and we invite everyone to join us in 1984 as we continue to offer events in all areas of interest to whippe owners as a way of achieving our goal "the enjoyment of the breed for all its purposes".
