1983 American Whippet Club National Pages 126 through 150
Looking back over the last twelve months all I can say is WOW!!! 1983 was one great year for our club. We started things off with our annual straight race and oval track. We are pleased to again offer our congratulations to Ch. Swiftsure Wishful Thinking, ARM, Can.Am.FC. for winning this double header. The thing that made our race weekend really special was the inclusion of all qualified breeds for our oval track race. We had some good races by these other breeds and are very happy to advise that Ch. Kelemark's Crystal Chandelier "Borzoi" is the first non-whippet to ever receive O.R.C. points. We offered the oval track racing to the other breeds mainly as a way of saying thank you to all our friends for helping us with our whippet race. We found to everyones delight that the variety of racing was greatly enjoyed and that there really are other breeds that can oval track as well as whippets and greyhounds. August once again brought about our annual specialty show. Our judge this year was Mrs. Lorraine Heichel-Masley. 1983 was the first time our specialty has been won by a male, Ch. Koira Denroc Genesis Adam. We enjoyed Mrs. Masley's judging and would once again like to thank her for coming to Calgary. We are now in the throes of winter, but you can be sure once spring is here we will be back on the field with our dogs. 1984 promises to be bigger and better than ever. We hope to be able to have two race meets, one in July and hopefully one in September. 1984 is also our fifth annual Specialty. We welcome this year as our judge, Mrs. James Prior of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. If you would like any information about our planned functions or about our club, please feel free to drop me a line. Best wishes to everyone and good luck in the new year. Susan Vardy Secretary 2211 - 35 Street S.E.
