With the end of 1989 comes the close of eighteen months of the Greater San Diego Whippet Association.

The club was organized by a handful of Whippet owners and enthusiasts in June of 1988 at the home of Carey and Lori Lawrence in Del Mar, California. Within a month it had grown to 18 members. The constitution was drawn up and the Greater San Diego Whippet Association became a reality. At present, the club boasts 35 members and is growing monthly.

In this short period of time, the group has held monthly meetings with such featured speakers as Carol Bardwich of Canine Cryo Bank and FOCAS (Friends Of County Animal Shelters), an organization dedicated to the adoption of lost animals. They have held three matches (including one all Whippet, one all hound and one all breed) and a racing fun day and picnic. Member Gene Mills has procured our incorporation and non profit status.

In 1990 GSDWA is planning three to four matches and is hoping to gather

more race interest by sponsoring a bi-monthly race practice. In February, 1990, GSDWA is supporting trophies and a Whippet exhibitor luncheon for the 100th Annual Silver Bay Kennel Club Show in Del Mar, CA, and will be hosting the Hospitality Suite on Friday, April 13 at the National Specialty in Palo Alto, CA.

If it sounds like Greater San Diego Whippet Association has begun with a bang - they have!! However, the best is yet to come. The membership is willing and enthusiastic and looking forward to a bright and exciting future.

YOU'VE HEARD OF HER .. .
