Queenie’s Tidal Wave, CRXII, FCh, ARX

“Macy”

Macy had a great time in ‘99! She earned her CRXII in WRA and was a grade “B” oval gal, picking up points toward a NOTRA Grade Racer award. Macy finished her ASFA Field Championship in 5 trials, including a Best of Breed over 14 Field Champions. She was 9th overall in the highly competitive Delaware JRRWA Versatility competition. Macy then went on to earn her ARX in 5 meets. She has learned showing is a lot of fun, too, and is looking forward to more in 2000, and is ready to start learning flyball.

Macy’s big Sis, Becca, melted my heart in the Parade of Honors at the 1999 National Specialty. Thanks to all of Becca’s friends who cheered her on when she was honored in the Parade. Though Becca and I did take a beginner obedience class, and she won the graduation class match, time constraints prevented us from working on it further. Obedience in 2000 or bust!

We have also welcomed a new boy into our family - Queenie’s DuRight Win-Chester, CR, who primarily resides with his co-mommy, Cheri Boutelle. Though our fun-loving youngster has only raced in a few WRA adult meets, he has shown flashes of being able to run well with the big boys. Thank you Rob and Brenda Corner and Cheri for making him a part of my life!

Abby

BIS, SBIS Ch. Summit Moonlight Serenade, JC
(Ch. Rhode Paved With Gold x Ch. Summit Jasmine)

Though specialed only twice, Abby brought home a BIS and SBIS. We were ecstatic!

She is also an avid CWA racer -
shown here edging out the competition.

Abby will be bred
for a carefully planned late spring litter.

Ch. Milestone Summit
One Man Band

(SBIS Ch. Gold Rush of Keynote
x BIS, SBIS Ch. Summit Moonlight Serenade, JC)

Logan’s class career was brief and to the point. He finished easily at 13 mos of age with some wonderful wins. He congratulates his litter brother, Ch. Summit He’s The One, who finished at 10 mos of age. Both boys have pleased us beyond expectation.

Logan now looks forward
to racing with CWA.

MAWA members' dogs once again showed their quality with outstanding placements in the conformation ring and performance venues in 1999. Topping the list was Ch. Elysian A-Few Perrier, LCM, ROMX going to Best of Breed from the Senior Veterans class at the age of 12 at the AWC National Specialty in St. Louis under internationally known judge Betty Stites. He was shown by his long time handler and MAWA member Jan Swayze. Judge Alan Odom had selected Perry as the winner of the Veterans Sweepstakes on Thursday before Best of Breed judging on Saturday. Perry was bred by one of MAWA's founders, lifetime member Mrs. Frances Hembree (A-Few) and co-owned by another of MAWA's lifetime members, Dr. James Gray (Elysian) and Chris Hatcher. Best of Opposite Sex went to Ch. Whippletrees Icy Affire, owned by Chris Hatcher and Cora Miller. Best in Show Puppy went to Watch Me True At First Light sired by Ch. O'Run Gustav Nordic Wind, SC, FCh, owned by member Karin Buck and Cindy Owens.

MAWA supported the back-to-back Classic City KC shows in May and hosted the 6 th annual MAWA Specialty in September plus a supported entry and an ASFA Lure Coursing Field Trial. These events combined again with the AWC Southern Specialty and an AWC supported entry to make a truly 5-day whippet weekend.

MAWA hosted 6 ASFA lure coursing field trials in 1999 with members' hounds continuing to be top contenders in the performance venues with Mike and Susan Hayden's bitch, DC TNT's She's A Heartbreaker, LCM3, a.k.a. Blondie, finishing 1998 as the #3 ASFA lure coursing whippet. Her kennel mate, JAMs Wandering My Way, LCM8, a.k.a. Frankie, finishing 1998 in the #4 spot.

All My Children…

(Well, OK … … Only Two)

The Bold and Beautiful
Ch. Sun Run’s Northern Lights, SC
(Ch. Briarwyke’s Keep the Change x BISS Ch. “Maxine”, FCh.)

Before a bout with pneumonia and his “mom’s” return to school sidelined him,
“Nicholas” was more than half way to both his AKC and ASFA field championships.
He may be seen on occasion as a veteran.

The Young and Restless
Sun Run’s Tattletail, JC
(DC “Rory” x Ch. Sun Run’s Tailights, FCh.)

So far, “Midgie” has only played in the show ring and in the field – even so, she is pointed and has BOB’s in both venues. She will be out in more “serious” pursuit of her titles this spring. Besides promising to be a serious contender, she’s also tons of fun to live with!

(Ch. Slade's Dixieland Dandi Duke, ARM x Marial's Nekoosa, ROM)

April 19, 1989 — March 1, 1999

"Brandy" was the first Whippet to earn the Continental Whippet Alliance (CWA) Dual-Purpose Champion (DPC) title in 1991. Ranked 5th on the all-time CWA race standings (top ranked female), "Brandy" won four CWA Race Meets and nine CWA Conformation Matches. She won Best of Breed in her first and only two lure coursing trials.

"Brandy" was a very unique personality and the "alpha" bitch of our household. She was the gutsiest and most courageous Whippet we have had the pleasure of knowing and is dearly missed here at Marial.
