“Macy” Macy had a great time in ‘99! She earned her CRXII in WRA and was a grade “B” oval gal, picking up points toward a NOTRA Grade Racer award. Macy finished her ASFA Field Championship in 5 trials, including a Best of Breed over 14 Field Champions. She was 9th overall in the highly competitive Delaware JRRWA Versatility competition. Macy then went on to earn her ARX in 5 meets. She has learned showing is a lot of fun, too, and is looking forward to more in 2000, and is ready to start learning flyball. Macy’s big Sis, Becca, melted my heart in the Parade of Honors at the 1999 National Specialty. Thanks to all of Becca’s friends who cheered her on when she was honored in the Parade. Though Becca and I did take a beginner obedience class, and she won the graduation class match, time constraints prevented us from working on it further. Obedience in 2000 or bust! We have also welcomed a new boy into our family - Queenie’s DuRight Win-Chester, CR, who primarily resides with his co-mommy, Cheri Boutelle. Though our fun-loving youngster has only raced in a few WRA adult meets, he has shown flashes of being able to run well with the big boys. Thank you Rob and Brenda Corner and Cheri for making him a part of my life!

Recording Secretary: Katherine Shearer MAWA members' dogs once again showed their quality with outstanding placements in the conformation ring and performance venues in 1999. Topping the list was Ch. Elysian A-Few Perrier, LCM, ROMX going to Best of Breed from the Senior Veterans class at the age of 12 at the AWC National Specialty in St. Louis under internationally known judge Betty Stites. He was shown by his long time handler and MAWA member Jan Swayze. Judge Alan Odom had selected Perry as the winner of the Veterans Sweepstakes on Thursday before Best of Breed judging on Saturday. Perry was bred by one of MAWA's founders, lifetime member Mrs. Frances Hembree (A-Few) and co-owned by another of MAWA's lifetime members, Dr. James Gray (Elysian) and Chris Hatcher. O'Run Gustav Nordic Wind, SC, FCh, owned by member Karin Buck and Cindy Owens. MAWA supported the back-to-back Classic City KC shows in May and hosted the 6 th annual MAWA Specialty in September plus a supported entry and an ASFA Lure Coursing Field Trial. These events combined again with the AWC Southern Specialty and an AWC supported entry to make a truly 5-day whippet weekend. MAWA hosted 6 ASFA lure coursing field trials in 1999 with members' hounds continuing to be top contenders in the performance venues with Mike and Susan Hayden's bitch, DC TNT's She's A Heartbreaker, LCM3, a.k.a.
