I started in 1967 by falling in love with Borzoi and imported two bitches from France. One of them was my foundation and behind all my dogs to this day. With an average of one litter a year almost 150 finished their championship. Give were Best Borzoi of the year, several have may Best in Specialty and a couple have Best in Shows
One of the highlights of my judging career was officiating at the Borzoi National. I have also finished several Whippets, Salukis, a Greyhound and a Irish Wolfhound

Between my children, career and dogs, I am kept very busy at striving to maintain high levels of achievement and success equally in each area. Shortly after my daughter was born, I became an active participant in the dog show world. In 1974, 1 acquired my first show dog, a Doberman Pinscher. The Doberman ring proved to be very challenging, but I quickly became accustomed to the term `Politics.' In the early 1981, I purchased my first Whippet puppy from Linda Garwacki (Bitterblue). Whippets have been my passion ever since. Their
superior intelligence and versatility, combined with an extraordinarily compassionate character, have made Whippets a breed I will never be without. I am continually challenging myself to create the 'perfect whippet'.
Over the years I have held been very active in many aspects of our local all breed kennel club and am a founding member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of Danbury. In November 1997, I was appointed by the AWC Board as the AWC Delegate to the American Kennel Club. In addition, I have been Advertising and Grounds Chairperson for the AWC National Specialties ('92, '96, '99). For the past nine years I have been responsible for preparing the pedigree section of the Whippet Annual.
Most notably, the greatest achievements in regards to myself as a breeder in the ring, have been at the AWC National and Regional Specialty shows. In 1989, I went Winners and received a Select Ribbon with a bitch I bred. Two years later, I went Best In Futurity with a three and a half months old puppy. As a breeder striving to create excellence, the Futurity award is most self gratifying and rewarding.
My current household consists of Ch Hamrya's Honey Beee JC ROM (Top Twenty Contender '97, '98), DC Hamrya's Bandolino MC (Top Twenty Contender '99 and '00) and two puppies. It is a huge honor to be asked to judge the Top Twenty competition tonight.

Thank you for the honor and opportunity to judge the Whippet National Top Twenty.
I purchased my first show dog, a basenji, in 1979. I then continued down the norma path of learning about breeding and responsibilities that went with breeding purebred dogs. I found that, although puppies were fun, I truly enjoyed showing dogs more than raising them.
I started handling dogs for friends, which eventually became a business, and started handling professionally around 1986.
Due to already having a family, I was unable to spend my entire time apprenticing. I was fortunate to find several well respected handlers who were willing to let me work for them on weekends.
From 1986 to present, I have been fortunate to handle top ranked Basenjis as well as other breeds. One of the dogs I handled was the top winning Basenji in the history of the breed and the only Basenji to be ranked in the Top Ten Hounds of all time.
I have also handled several whippets to their championships. Again, I feel this is an extreme honor to be chosen to judge.
I wish all of you the greatest success and fun filled national.
Sincerely,
Erin Roberts

My introduction to the wonderful world of
whippets came in 1982 when I was sixteen year
old. My mother brought home Sophie, Affinity
Silver Dream. That summer, our family attended
an NPR race meet at the Fort Snelling Polo grounds
in Minnesota. IT WAS THRILLING!! I loved the
athleticism of the dogs and the excitement of the
races. I was encouraged by fellow participants to
show Sophie in the fun match following the race
meet. As a complete novice, I hadn't a clue about
showing dogs. After a crash course in handling,
ventured into the ring and won Best in Match. I was hooked, Sophie later became Ch Affinity Silver Dream.
A few years later, I fell in love with a little red puppy bitch with the most beautiful big, round black eyes, a body of substance, and incredible side-movement with flawless shoulder locomotion. This was my Lucy, Affinity Scout's Honor. Lucy became my foundation bitch, producing two very successful litters. One of her daughters, Ch. Dashing the Lioness, LCM, ROM (Sheena) is a multiple Best in Field winner and was the top producing whippet dam for the year 2000. IN two litters, Sheena has produce show champions, a group winner and group placers, race titled dogs, and ASFA field champions and a lure courser of merit. One of my proudest moments in dogs was winning the hound group from the bred-by-exhibitor class with a Sheena daughter, Ch Windsheen Dashing BeeBop, FCh., TRP, DPC (Erin). It is hard to believe that Erin now a mother and Sheena is a grandmother.
In 1987 I joined the American Whippet Club and in 2001 I became the AWC North
Central Regional show-chairman. I currently serve as the President of the Greater Twin
Cities Whippet Club and I am a board member of our local all-breed club, the St. Croix
Valley Kennel Club.
Thank you to the Top Twenty committee for asking me to participate in this year's
event.

I acquired my first Whippet by default in 1965 and bred, using the "Alery" name until 1980 and the "Baccarat" name from then until now.
Together with various co-owners and co- breeders, I have bred and/or owned the Top Whippet in Canada numerous times, from the early 70's until 2000. Wins achieved at American Whippet Club events have always been the highlight of my career with Whippets, from the first BOW at the AWC Mid-West (Ravenna) in the early 70's with Alery Black Magic of Mor Shor, to BOW at the AWC National in 2000 with Ch. Baccarat Thyme at Wheatenridge, who also won BOB at the AWC Eastern from the Bred By class the same year.
We all love to win at the shows we participate in, however, most treasured to me, are
the wonderful people that I have come know, and be friendly with in our breed over
these 30 some years.
It's a genuine pleasure to be ring stewarding at the 2003 Top Twenty , and participat ing in another American Whippet Club Specialty event

Top Twenty Event
Official Rules and Regulations
Purpose:
The Top Twenty event has been initiated to encourage the exhibition of Whippets in the breed competition. Each event will be part of the AWC National Specialty and will serve a variety of purposes in educating judges, exhibitors, breeders and fanciers and will offer all an opportunity to view the Cream of the Crop competing together in one ring. The competition will also promote discussions of the standard which encourages the exchange of ideas and will provide a showcase for those Whippets with the most outstanding records in breed competition.
Eligibility:
Judges:
1. Three judges with no affiliation to any of the Top Twenty participants will be selected, one from each of the following categories:
A. Breeder —Anestablished Whippet breeder who has been breeding for at least five years or who has produced at least five Champions of Record as published by the AKC Awards Gazette.
B. AKC — Licensed Hound Group Judge –A licensed judge approved to judge the entire hound group.
C. Handler (past or present) — A professional handler meeting the requirements for membership in a Professional Handler's organization (though not necessarily a member). Must have at least five year's experience with Whippets.
2. The names of those selected to judge will be kept confidential until the day of the event.
Scoring:
1. Each judge will individually evaluate each participating Whippet. Each judge receives an official score sheet for each participant. On the official score sheet, each judge will score the participant on conformation to the standard, movement, and overall presentation. These scores are turned into their respective ring steward at the end of each participant evaluation. The ring stewards turn the score sheets over to the Top Twenty chairperson.
2. On the day of the Awards Banquet, the Auditing Committee, consisting of the Top Twenty chairperson and stewards, will tabulate and total the scores for each dog. The Top 5 choices from each judge will be placed in order, l through 5 th, on official scorecards. Scoring will be as follows: 1 st place = 100 points; 2 nd place = 80 points; 3 rd place = 70 points; 4 th place = 60 points; and 5 th place = 50 points.A. The scores for each dog from each of the three judges will be added together and divided by three to determine each dog's average score.
B. In the event of a tie, the Auditing Committee will determine the winner by each dog's placement on the scorecard of the "call" judge. The "call" judge will be the Breeder judge. Of the dogs involved in the tie, the dog placing highest on the "call" judge's card will be declared the winner.
Awards:
1. The results of the event will not be announced immediately after the competition but rather will be kept confidential until the Awards Banquet.
2. At the Awards Banquet, the dog with the highest average score will be declared the winner of the Top Twenty Event.
